D4i and Zhaga - A future-proof alternative

As demands on outdoor lighting grow – in terms of functionality, energy efficiency, and connectivity – it's becoming increasingly important to choose products that are ready for the future. With the Zhaga standard and D4i-compatible drivers, we take a step closer to a more intelligent and flexible lighting environment.

Zhaga is a global standard for the mechanical and electrical interface between a luminaire and a sensor or communication module. This means that luminaires with a Zhaga socket can easily be equipped with, for example, light sensors, motion detection, or wireless control – without requiring customization or special solutions.

D4i means that the driver is ready for smart control via DALI and supports data transmission, such as energy consumption or luminaire status. This opens up new possibilities for control, monitoring, and maintenance – ideal in an era where sustainability and operational optimization are in focus.

Simply put, the socket on the luminaire is Zhaga-compatible, while the node attached to the socket is D4i-compatible. The luminaire and sensor will communicate automatically without the need for extra power cables or complex installation.

Ark with D4i

At Westal, we've made the technology available in a form that is both technically sound and aesthetically pleasing. The Ark pole is one example that combines design and durable construction with D4i-compatible drivers and a Zhaga socket. This makes Ark ready for the control systems of the future, whether it's wireless presence control or integration into a larger DALI network. You can connect any type of control system to the socket – anything from a dusk relay to a complete Smart City solution.

SmartCity solution to connect

A SmartCity solution allows you to collect data and monitor and control the luminaire remotely. It also enables you to pair luminaires, so they can communicate with each other.
