Sustainable and Customised Lighting Solution
for the Nötskrikan Property in Lugnet, Borås

When the residential project Nötskrikan in Lugnet, Borås took shape, the goal was to create a building where materials, details, and lighting would work together to enhance the overall expression. Architects Johan Navjord and Marcus Abrahamsson describe the building as robust and visually distinctive, with materials such as stone, brick, and metal chosen for their durability and their ability to age beautifully. This strong architectural direction also required the lighting to contribute to the same thoughtful expression.

Since Westal has many years of experience in custom manufacturing at the factory in Bankeryd, we were entrusted—via Elkedjan and the installer Olsfors Elektriska—to deliver a complete lighting solution for Nötskrikan.

”We have had a very efficiant and transparent collaboration between us, the installer, the architects and the developer throughout the entire process, where all parties contributed to creating a well-considered and long-term sustainable solution.”

For the façade, the classic Tratt wall luminaire was chosen and customised with an LED unit instead of a traditional E27 socket, providing soft, well-shielded light. The LED unit is also replaceable, creating a sustainable fixture with a long service life.

The property features sheet-metal details coated in a specially selected colour, and to better match the building’s overall expression, the Tratt fixtures were custom-painted at the factory in Bankeryd in exactly the same colour. This ensured a unified design language and a discreet integration of the lighting into the building’s architecture.
Around the building, Trius bollards were installed, also custom-painted in the same colour as the Tratt. Together with the rest of the lighting, they create an inviting and safe atmosphere.

On the balconies, matching painted Tratt wall luminaires were installed, these equipped with an E27 socket.

Since the municipality of Borås required that the distinctive glazed rooftop orangeries be illuminated during the evenings, LED strips from Westal were installed here, providing pleasant and discreet lighting that highlights the orangeries without overpowering them.

In the basement areas, WLF IP44 fixtures with ActiveAhead—one of the most advanced wireless control systems that learns how the spaces are used over time for optimal energy efficiency—were installed. In the stairwells, Athena II ceiling fixtures with sensors are used. In addition, Westal had the opportunity to supply emergency exit signs for the property.

”We are very pleased to have been entrusted with delivering a sustainable and complete lighting solutions for a unique building like Nötskrikan. It demonstrates what we are able to achieve at the factory in Bankeryd to meet the project's high level of ambition.”
